ENSI Erfahrungs- und Forschungsbericht 2011
community. The NORA project consists of a con-
sortium formed by the Swiss Federal Nuclear Sa-
fety Inspectorate ENSI, the nuclear power plants
Mühleberg (KKM) and Leibstadt (KKL) and two la-
boratories (Lab for Nuclear Materials and Hot Lab
Division) at PSI. The ENSI and all Swiss utilities are
periodically informed on the actual project status
during the annual ENSI-PSI project presentations.
Additionally, semi-annual project steering commit-
tee meetings are held where ENSI, KKM, KKL and
PSI are represented. Close collaboration exists also
to the KORA-II project.
5. International collaborations
The involved groups and scientists at PSI are very
well integrated in international research projects,
networks and communities (e.g., International Co-
operative Group on Environmentally-Assisted Cra-
cking of Water Reactor Structural Materials (ICG-
EAC), European Co-operative Group on Corrosion
Monitoring of Nuclear Materials (ECG-COMON),
Working Party 4 (Nuclear Corrosion) of the Eu-
ropean Federation of Corrosion (EFC), etc.). Our
research activities are presented and discussed
within these groups. Within the 6
th
EU-framework
program, the Component Safety group actively
participated as an associate member in the Net-
work of Excellence for Nuclear Plant Life Predic-
tion (NULIFE). PSI is also in close contact with GE
Global Research Centre concerning the research
on NobleChem
TM
. Additionally, cooperation with
the BWR Vessel and Internals Project of the Elec-
tric Power Research Institute (EPRI) was established
in 2011. PSI will provide KKL OLNC plant data for
EPRI, which they will use for the modelling of no-
ble metal deposition in BWRs.
6. Assessment of 2011 and
perspectives for 2012
6.1. Assessment of 2011
The major part of the project goals and milesto-
nes for the second project year has been achie-
ved. The optimisation of the experimental facilities
at PSI (high-temperature water loop), a first series
of Pt deposition experiments (eight tests) and the
qualification of the analytical methods (investiga-
tion of the specimens by SEM, TEM and LA-ICP-
MS) covered the largest part of the project work
in 2011. Several meetings were held (at KKL, PSI
and with EPRI), specimens exposed to the reactor
water in KKL were transported to PSI, four confe-
rences (ICG-EAC 2011, EUROCORR 2011, GE-Hi-
tachi Chemistry Conference 2011, and VGB Con-
